Company Pride

2 words you don't hear much in corporate america anymore - company pride. In the days of Enron, WorldCom and others, it's hard to muster pride in your company when it's fairly certain that those at the top will try to screw those at the bottom.
I work for Travelers - a Fortune 100 company with a very long and very difficult history. Buy outs, hostile takeovers, bail outs, spin offs, massive job cuts and layoffs - it's been a nearly endless parade since the late 1980's. The Hubby has worked here since that time, so he's seen it all and been lucky talented enough to survive it all. For the past 3 years it's been a stable, growing company. We got our world-famous red umbrella logo back earlier this year, which was a huge shot in the arm to the company.
Travelers takes its position in the community - local and world-at-large - very seriously. My own division has done some amazing things at the local level in the past year. It's something that I'm very proud of - and now my pride grows with this latest news. G.I. Jobs - an organization that:
...gives military transitioners the most relevant and useful assistance and gives hiring companies the most comprehensive and cost-effective vehicle to recruit them...
has released it's Top 50 Military-Friendly Employers for 2007 - Travelers is listed as number 19. In a quote from an internal article at Travelers:
In the December issue, which hit stands on Veterans Day, G.I. Jobs states, “approximately 2,500 companies were considered: 2 percent made the list.” Those selected for the list exhibit a strong commitment to military hiring and have reserve/guard friendly policies.
Indeed - one of Travelers most senior executives had this to say:
“We need to hire more transitioning military personnel; we are a great American company and it is the right thing to do.”
Yes it is the right thing to do and Travelers is putting their money where their mouth is. I'm very proud to work for a company that recognizes the amazing value that our veterans bring to the table. Thank you Travelers!

Good for you, I mean them....
Whatever. You know what I mean. :)
What a great story! Lucky you to be associated with them.
Still hating you. Had I mentioned that? ;-)
Beautiful pictures, by the way, All of them.
Oops. sorry.
That last comment was meant for your most recent post... Paradise Day 2, I think.
I'm gratified to see my former company is #13. (There's a pdf of the Top 25 military-friendly companies at the link, also) The fact EDS was described by some as a "para-military organization" was one of the chief reasons I went to work for them when I retired from the AF. But that was back in the Perot days. But...good to see some things remain the same!
And...good on The Travelers, too. I'm happy to see "company pride" isn't just a term from the past.
Well, dang. The link I gave you is from 2005. Didn't notice that until just now. I'll be watching for the current (2007) list...
Now if we could just get companies to also recognize the rest of the military family... :)
